The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Hussein Ibrahim Taha, said that the violations in the occupied city of Jerusalem coincide with a serious escalation in the pace of Israeli crimes against the Palestinian people, represented by the latest Israeli military aggression against the Palestinian people. The Gaza Strip, which resulted in 36 casualties.

Taha emphasized that the number of Palestinian martyrs during the last six months has risen to about 180 martyrs, in addition to hundreds of wounded Palestinians.

This came during the Secretary-General’s speech at the extraordinary open meeting of the Executive Committee, held by the General Secretariat of the organization to discuss the ongoing Israeli attacks on the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, at the invitation of the organization. The State of Palestine and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, today, Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at the organization’s headquarters in Jeddah.

The Secretary-General added that it is unthinkable that Israel, the occupying power, would remain acting as a state above the law, committing its crimes and aggression against the Palestinian people, its land and its sanctity without fearing a reaction or expecting punishment, and emphasized the responsibility of the international community to put an end to Israeli violations as a threat to peace and security the internationals.

He explained that the organization followed the dangerous Israeli escalation in harming Islamic and Christian holy places in the occupied city of Jerusalem, especially the desecration and attack on the al-Aqsa Mosque by groups of extremist settlers and Israeli officials, while protecting the occupation forces, holding a meeting of the Israeli occupation government in a tunnel under the al-Masjid Aktasa Hamborech, and the organization of what is known as the provocative “Flag March” in the neighborhoods of Jerusalem.

The Secretary-General once again warned against the seriousness of these continued brutal Israeli attacks on the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, which constitute an attack on the sanctity of the holy places and the freedom of worship, and represent an attack on the Palestinian people and their sanctities, and an attack on the feelings and faith of Muslims all over the world.

Hussein Taha welcomed the international reactions of rejection and condemnation of this provocative visit of the extremist Israeli minister to the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque.

He also stressed that the city of Jerusalem is an integral part of the Palestinian territory occupied in 1967, and the capital of the State of Palestine, and that all decisions and measures taken by the Israeli occupation to Judaize the city of Jerusalem have no legal effect and are considered void.
